The Supreme Court of Crimea has rejected the appeals of two individuals convicted of attempting to assassinate a local blogger. The men, who were unemployed, were found guilty of plotting the murder of a Feodosia resident who had publicly expressed support for Russia's military operations. The court upheld their original sentences, sending them to strict-regime correctional colonies for 16 and 10 years, respectively.
According to the investigation, the two men were recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services and offered one million rubles to carry out the assassination. They planted an explosive device in a moped parked near the victim's apartment building. The bomb detonated on July 12, 2023, injuring two bystanders. Additionally, one of the defendants was involved in setting fire to a car displaying the pro-Russian "Z" symbol in Feodosia.
The court sided with the prosecution, dismissing the defendants' appeals and leaving their sentences unchanged. The Crimean Prosecutor's Office emphasized that the evidence against the men was overwhelming, and their actions posed a significant threat to public safety.
This case is part of a larger investigation into individuals linked to Ukrainian intelligence operations in Crimea. Authorities have uncovered multiple plots involving sabotage and targeted violence, often aimed at silencing pro-Russian voices in the region.
