Emilia Pérez, Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, and Karla Sofía Gascón attended the ELLE Women in Hollywood event tonight. The event, held in partnership with Ralph Lauren, Harry Winston, and TikTok, brought together influential women in the industry to discuss their work and experiences.
The three honorees, who all star in the film, spoke about the importance of the project and took a moment to criticize Project 2025, a conservative playbook for Donald Trump's second presidential term. Saldaña highlighted their Latina heritage and Gascon being a trans woman, jokingly referring to themselves as "Project 2025 chapters 1 through 3."
Saldaña also expressed gratitude towards the director, Jacques Audiard, for bringing their character, Emilia Pérez, to life. She emphasized the importance of women having control over their bodies and their freedom to be themselves.
Gascón, who plays the lead role as a former cartel leader undergoing gender-affirming surgery, shared her excitement and gratitude for being a part of the film. She expressed hope that movies like this will continue to promote diversity, identity, and unique stories.
Gomez, speaking last, expressed her admiration for a story that celebrates resilience and self-discovery. As women in the industry, she emphasized the responsibility they have to support and uplift each other, as well as to tell meaningful stories.
