In Novosibirsk, the Autumn Decade for the Elderly is in full swing. This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the event, which includes more than 400 activities. The Department of Social Policy of the Novosibirsk City Administration organized the event.
Worldwide, International Day of Older Persons is celebrated on October 1st, but in Russia, the festivities last for ten days. It has become a good tradition for the city to hold various events during this period.
The ceremonial event, "Autumn Melodies," dedicated to the opening of the decade, took place at the V. Mayakovsky Concert Complex. Elderly people arrived an hour before the main event to chat with each other, listen to songs, and take photos in a beautiful autumn-themed photo zone. Many couldn't resist dancing when the ensemble "Surprise," led by Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Sergey Martyniuk, performed.
Volunteers greeted and accompanied older people to their seats in the hall. Everyone was surrounded by care and attention, and they only spoke about how much this event meant to them: familiar faces, everyone dressed up, and in high spirits.
The large hall was completely filled, and the Mayor of Novosibirsk, Maxim Kudryavtsev, welcomed all the attendees. He said, "From October 1st to 10th every year, we organize a series of events aimed at the social support of older citizens, promoting their active longevity and involvement in the city's social life. Senior citizens always need attention and care, and now I would like to express my gratitude to everyone present in the hall and to all Novosibirsk veterans for their work, professionalism, and the foundation they have created for us. Thank you for continuing your public service and actively participating in the upbringing of the younger generation."
The Head of the Department of Social Policy of the Novosibirsk City Administration, Olga Potapova, noted that the achievements of Novosibirsk in the scientific, educational, and industrial fields are the result of the work of veterans and elderly people who have worked for the glory of their city. She emphasized that the warmth, humanity, and wisdom that older people bring to everyone's lives are invaluable.
Potapova added, "I would like to thank the veteran organizations of the city separately. It is you who make our work truly targeted, help us make the right management decisions, with a person at the center. Caring for the elderly and the tasks facing the social sphere are a priority for the city administration. The Department of Social Policy will continue to develop and strengthen work in this direction." She also reminded everyone that the city implements a wide range of social support measures for veterans and pensioners.
The solemn event continued with a concert featuring soloists from NOVAT, the Novosibirsk State Philharmonic, the children's vocal ensemble "Kashalot," and the dance ensemble "Sibir." The news was prepared as part of the implementation of the municipal program "Strengthening Public Health in the Territory of Novosibirsk" for 2021-2024. The program's activities aim to promote healthy lifestyle principles among the residents of Novosibirsk.
